Oyeku Meji - Darkness for Light
When discussing Oyeku... it is necessary to give yourself time to clear your head to see the enumerable positive aspects of Oyeku Meji. And they refer, one way or another, to our ancestors. In this area they are incredibly important!
While we can never be totally sure what role the Ancestors play as a part in our transport system or that there is something much broader. What we can be sure about is there is an access route for contacting our Ancestors. And we also know… that if we allow a whole bunch of mistrust to build fear...will definitely muddle our thinking.
The first thing that needs to go right into the trash bin is the “understanding” that Oyeku is somehow always disappointing, always foreboding, and associated with death (plus a host of similar fears). Just to let you know, this is in DIRECT contradiction to most of what is contained in parts of the Sacred Ifa Oracle… (so you see that knowledge is growth and one must never assume you have somehow reached the end point of understanding the Odu!)
Another item for the trash pile of your memory bank is to unwind Oya from being linked to Oyeku. It was clear, even in the historical references, that Oya was NOT the keeper of the cemetery. She was the “Gate“keeper!
In the verbal method of attempting to understand, remember and convey our knowledge to the next generation, we began to make our often fatal mistake. Let me simply say that Oya’s connection with Oyeku is just one of a number (although the most tangible) ways of SUDDEN CHANGE. After all, what is more absolute than one second being alive and the next second entering a totally different world.
It is a NATURAL occurrence, happening every night. While the Yoruba people still inhabit the encompassing darkness, they were given the information that the inhabitants are SIMPLY different...not strange or foreboding. After all, the creatures of the night (thousands of years before man routinely did the same) include the Owls, Snow Leopards, Red Fox, Skunks, Night Parrots and Nightingales who are among the THOUSANDS that wake in the night and go back to sleep in the daytime.IT WAS A REMINDER TO BE AWARE OF THE POPULATION AND ALL IT INCLUDED...NOT AFRAID. Yet you can see what happened.
So today's lesson is #1. Fear should not be part of Ifa and #2. TRUTH must be taken within the context it was intended...not as a repeated mantra.
Until next time
Love and blessings
