A new energy is formed at the moment two individuals commit to weaving a life together.
To align this new position within the Universe, specific rituals are performed by Oluwo Philip John Neimark, or Iyanifa Vassa, High Priest of Ifa.
The following information is the framework of how our traditional Ifa Weddings have been performed in the past.
The couple that is being united will be cleansed through two rituals. White doves, that are released, for the head and Sea water for the feet. The Bride will be brought to the Wedding Altar as a serious of songs and prayers are expressed in the Yoruba language. This is the way of calling all the Spirits to come and bless this new formation of two people.
When at the Altar, The Oluwo will say specific Prayers to the Ancestors asking for their blessings while giving specific offerings to the Earth in their honor. At this time, if the couple has written anything specific, the Oluwo would then deliver the messages. Or, the couple may use their own voices.
Throughout various points in the Ifa Wedding Ceremony, special plates will be presented to the couple. They will contain specific materials to strengthen the invocations while forming a connection for the positive intents being made through the prayers. Each of the offerings brings an alignment that is necessary for the success of greater harmony, happiness and joy!
The plates and goblets will be passed along to all those individuals attending. They too will be able to express their blessings inside the ceremonial Rituals. There are several ways we do this part of the presentation, depending on how large the party. We can have musicians playing in the background. Options are drummers, flutist, and percussionist. During this time, we will present the rings that are the actual wedding bands you chose. Songs, prayers and music can be customized from this point on.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Newlyweds would then visit each of the dedicated Orisa Gardens
to begin saying their prayers, as a married couple. (If the Wedding Ceremony is at the Ola Olu Retreat)
Catering foods & beverages you desire can be an option for your Wedding Ceremony Day. The Wedding Ceremony can be performed inside the special Trellis canopy at the Osanyin Garden. There areas along the shore of our Lake Ola Olu as well. We can also offer the Ifa Wedding anywhere on the grounds
